Mountain Climbing
What to Bring?
The best way to protect against the cold is by 'layering'.
We recommend that for Mt Kenya and Kilimanjaro that you bring the following:
- base layers (thermal t-shirt and long-johns)
- 100 ml fleece
- 200 ml fleece
- waterproof and windproof jacket or 'shell'
- waterproof and windproof trousers or 'shell'
- hiking trousers (not jeans!)
- sturdy, waterproof hiking boots (preferably worn-in!)
- 3 pairs thick hiking socks (pre-moulded heels/toes)
- woolly hat or beanie
- gloves
- scarf
- snow-gaiters (only necessary after large snow-fall)
Other equipment
- sleeping bag (4 seasons)
- sleeping mat
- ruck sack (30 litre day-sack)
- water bottles (2 x 1 litre)
- pen knife or 'Leatherman'
- sunglasses
- camera
- aspirin (in case of altitude sickness)
- sun cream (incl total block)
- head torch
For camp-based treks tents are provided. For all treks porters carry cooking equipment and food leaving you to carry just your essentials.
Sleeping bags, mats and waterproof jackets can be rented locally. Pls ask for details.
