Unlike a game-drive based safari, on horseback or camel back you can approach herds of grazing animals without startling them, follow their trails and even drink from the same watering holes.  You can experience what it's like to walk into a clearing and come face-to-face with a herd of elephant!

We have horse-back safaris to suit all levels of rider, from complete beginners to experienced riders.  The safaris are generally camp-based and each day you will have the opportunity to explore the surrounding wilderness, stopping for a pack-lunch and to rest your aching muscles.  Horse-back safaris are run either in the wild northern frontier district of Kenya, around Lake Naivasha and Nakuru in the Rift Valley, in Loita Hills bordering Masai Mara or the Chyulu Hills borderding Amboseli.  Alternatively we can arrange riding at the Kenyan Coast where you can experience what's it's like to gallop through the Indian Ocean !

At Borana Ranch, on the edge of the Laikipia Plateau, guests can ride through the plains at the foot of the escarpment among giraffe, hartebeest and impala or into the forest that cloaks the foot of Mount Kenya. Further up Mount Kenya at Kisima, we keep a stable of polo ponies which are only suitable for experienced riders. Guests are welcome to stick and ball at the North Kenya Polo Club or ride up into the heather on the mountain-side where day long trips can be arranged.

Horseriding is also available from Lewa Wilderness, at Lewa Conservancy.

Horse Riding

Another option for horseriding is Longonot Game Ranch, near Lake Naivasha.  Longonot Game Ranch  is situated above the shores of lake Naivasha with the dormant volcano Mt Longonot serving as a backdrop.  This is primarily a horseriding ranch with morning and evening rides available as well as all-day rides with pack-lunch.  Optional activities include bass fishing on the lake, walks in Hell's Gate National Park, visiting the hot springs and geysers, rock-climbing, bird-watching, game walks on Crescent Island, etc.  We can also organise a round of golf at the spectacular Great Rift Valley Golf Club.  Transport by road from Nairobi (approx. 1.5hrs)

Alternatively we can arrange 3 - 15 day horse riding safaris throughout Kenya and Tanzania - this is one of the most unique and exciting adventure activities in East Africa.  Our safaris journey through the game-lands of Kenya on solid cross-bred horses enabling you to experience wildlife and habitats off the beaten track.  Our supplier pioneered horseback safaris across Kenya and remains the most experienced riding outfit.  Safari destinations include: Lake Naivasha and Hell's Gate NP; Masai Mara; Chyulu Hills; Lewa and Laikipia; Samburu; Loita Hills; Kenya Coast.

Camel Safaris

For a break from the norm take a camel safari - a 3 or 5 day safari atop a humped camel will give you an entirely different perspective of Africa!  We run camel safaris take place in the wild Laikipia district of Northern Kenya.  Our safaris range from 3 days to 2 weeks.

We set out from Sabuk Lodge in Northern Kenya, either on foot or on your camel, and follow the course of the Ewaso Nyiro river.

Sat atop a camel you have a great vantage point from which to spot game not visible from ground-level.

For those who prefer to walk, the camels can be used solely as baggage carriers (they also carry the tents, cooking gear and other essentials).

All treks are guided by trained and experienced Maasai guides who have unparalleled knowledge of the local fauna and flora.
