4 day Gorilla Safari - Bwindi, Uganda
Itinerary:
Day 1 SUNDAY
Met in Kigali and have an early start for Bwindi. Briefing on your safari. Drive to Uganda via Katuna border [Clocks go forward one hour] and continue to Bwindi through the Switzerland of Africa, with the road winding through many hills and valleys, with distant views of the volcanoes. Time permitting, go for a guided nature walk in the thick forest rich in birds, butterflies and monkeys. Alternatively go for a short stroll around the Lodge. O/N: Bwindi Lodge (FB).
Day 2 MONDAY
Go gorilla tracking (subject to permit availability at time of booking), walking up steep densely forested hills before finally coming across the gorillas camouflaged in the vegetation. An inspiring moment! Tracking in Bwindi requires stamina and can often take most of the day. O/N: Bwindi Lodge (FB).
Day 3 TUESDAY
Either go gorilla tracking again (on payment of supplement at the time of booking subject to permit availability) or go for a guided nature walk in the thick forest rich in birds, butterflies and monkeys. Alternatively go for a stroll around the lodge or for a community walk. O/N: Bwindi Lodge (FB).
Day 4 WEDNESDAY
Leave for Kigali in Rwanda via Kabale and Katuna, [Clocks go back one hour]. Time permitting, go for a tour of the city including a visit to the market, a pottery project, handicraft shops, and the genocide memorial. Transfer to the airport.
Accommodation:
The lodge overlooks the primeval Bwindi forest home to gorillas, monkeys, chimpanzees and birds. Tracking gorillas in the so-called ‘impenetrable' forest is a magical experience. At this stunning eco-lodge with eight bandas, clients can spend the day on the terrace, which juts out into the forest, mesmerized by its exotic sounds watching primates and birds in the canopy. The walk to the river through regenerated bush we have carefully nurtured as a buffer zone is magical. It is a favourite haunt for the gorillas and they often sleep at the lodge! The lodge is an hour's flight from Entebbe, a long drive day's drive from Kampala or six hours' drive from Kigali.
Tariffs:
$2,500 per person based on 2 sharing. Scheduled departures leave once a month. Specific dates available on request.
Price includes:
Transport and a driver/guide for the itinerary agreed, accommodation on a shared basis and meals stated (in Kampala, Entebbe and Kigali bed and breakfast only and on safari full board) and, where appropriate, boat trips, park fees, chimpanzee permits and one gorilla permit. At Volcanoes lodges (Bwindi, Mount Gahinga, Kyambura and Virunga), the tariffs are on an all inclusive basis and in addition to accommodation and meals, include unlimited consumption of all alcoholic and soft drinks; laundry services; and any activities clients wish to do around the lodges. A complimentary massage is also offered.

Specific Conditions:
Please note that gorilla tracking is a strenuous activity and one should be physically fit to enjoy this tour. Minimum tracking age is 15 years.
Anyone with signs of communicable diseases will NOT be allowed to trek .While possession of a gorilla permit is a guarantee of trekking and sighting the gorillas, the quality of the gorilla trekking cannot be guaranteed.
Maximum time allowed with the gorillas will NOT exceed ONE hour.
What to Bring:
We strongly recommend the following:
Rain poncho (lightweight), long-sleeved shirt, waterproof trousers, sturdy hiking boots, leather gardening -type gloves, sunscreen, insect repellent and any necessary medications must be brought by yourselves either from your home town or from Kampala/Nairobi. Still Cameras and Camcorders are allowed, but bring batteries and film with you.
