Fishing for Nile Perch + Tiger Fish

Lake Victoria + Murchison Falls - Uganda

General Information

We offer professionally-run fishing trips on Lake Victoria and the Nile river in Murchison Falls National Park.  Nile perch between 10-80kg in weight, the largest fresh water game fish in the world, are the main catch on the lake. Trolling with lures is the method of fishing used.  All the necessary fishing tackle for nile perch trolling on the lake is provided but anglers are free to bring their own equipment.  Trips can be for the day, no previous experience required, or for longer for the more keen, serious fisherman.

At Murchison Falls National Park fish are caught on live bait or with casting lures including Nile perch and various species of cat fish.  There are also a large variety of smaller species, (used as live bait), obtained by spinning including tiger fish.  Fishing is either from the river bank or from a boat at the base of the falls area.  This fishing is generally done over a few days and can be very exciting but it does require some experience and also a certain level of fitness due to the access conditions.

Nile Perch fishing - Uganda

Suggested Itinerary - 2 nights Lake Victoria, 3 nights Murchison Falls.

From US$2,150 per person.

Bulago Island - Arrive at Entebbe and take taxi to Entebbe jetty.  Picked-up by speed-boat and ferried across the Equator to Bulago Island on Lake Victoria - a 500 acre privately-owned island lying some 35km south of Kampala.  The boat journey and takes about 1 hour. Bulago is a beautiful island with white, sandy beaches, clear, fresh water and being a privately-owned island is very secluded.  Fishing for Nile Perch from $185 per half-day (up to 4 rods).  Additional activities include sailing, swimming, croquet, horse riding, bird watching, boating and water sports. We can also arrange a visit to Ngamba Island, home to the WWF and Jane Goodall supported chimpanzee sanctuary.  2 nights Bulago Island in individual, private cabins with thatched roof and "sundowner" veranda.  Meal plan: full-board including breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Murchison Trip - Boat-transfer to Entebbe jetty where you will be picked up and driven by road to Murchison Falls (4-6 hours) viewing the top of the falls en-route.  Check-in Nile Safari Camp or similar (full board).  Following morning set out on a boat with powerful outboards which will get you right under the falls at Murchison.  Here you will fish for the pugnacious Tiger fish using live bait / casting lures include Nile perch and various species of cat fish (full-day's fishing). Day 3 - fishing either from the rocks on the bank of the river or slightly lower down stream in the pools from a boat (use of boat additional $300). Access to the fishing spots is either by boat from a point further down stream at Paraa Ferry, or down the gorge to the river from the top of the falls. It's a steep climb back up and hence most people tend to go fishing equipped for the day to avoid climbing up in the heat of the day.  Optional game drives and rivers cruises to take a break from fishing or for members of the party who don't fish.  Day 4 return to Kampala/Entebbe by road (air-transfers available on request).  3 nights at Murchison Falls in log cabins or luxury tent.
