The Polo House - 647 Galu Beach, Kenya

2 magnificent, newly built beach-houses located directly on the magnificent Galu Beach.

Galu Beach Galu Beach is just south of Diani Beach but is much less commercial.  Unlike Diani Beach, here there are very few tourists - its not uncommon to go for a walk on Galu and not see another sole!  Being away from it all has the added advantage that you don't get hassled by beach boys. The House is about a 10-15 minute drive from the main Diani shopping centre - so shops, banks, restaurants and other amenities are within easy reach.  This is the perfect place to go on holiday with your family or with a group of friends. With a full time cook and maid, you get the same service as in a hotel but you decide the pace and timetable. The plot is large at 11,000m2 with a very nice front garden and swimming pool. It is set in lush tropical gardens with green lawns and palms trees - there's even an old Arab mosque at the bottom of the garden. The property is fully walled and very secure (24 hour professional security company) with its own private gate opening directly onto the beach. On the same plot there are 4 stand alone houses belonging to the family, 2 of which are for rent.  You will wake up to a prepared breakfast of tropical fruits, eggs, coffee/tea, etc, and while you are eating your mango watching the fishermen coming back from sea, the maid is cleaning the rooms/bathrooms and making the beds. You then decide the menu for the day (fish, crab, shrimp, lobster, etc) and the cook will buy the catch of the day on the beach in front of the house, and at €1.50 the kilo of fresh fish or €7 the kilo of shrimp, you are in for a good diet of seafood. The rest of the day can then be spend laying around on the beach, by the swimming pool or on the terrace, swimming, jogging or taking part in some water sport activities such as Diving, Deep sea fishing, Kite surfing, Windsurfing or Kayaking

HOUSE 1 (4 bed sleeps 8)

The house is situated right on Galu beach (30m from the water-line), with a fantastic view of the beach and the Indian Ocean. The house was built in late 2004 (2 story and 240m2 house) and has been furnished with Swahili furniture from Lamu and Zanzibar. 

Downstairs there's a large dining room where 10 people can eat in comfort. A large, airy lounge opens onto the veranda. On the other side of the veranda are comfortable Funzi beds with kikoy-covered cushions - ideal for relaxing during the heat of the day. There's also a separate WC downstairs as well as an outside shower. The house does not have air-conditioning but being so close to the beach it benefits from a sea-breeze and all rooms have fans and mosquito nets. 

Upstairs there are 4 bedrooms, and 2 bathrooms with shower and toilets, plus an extra toilet downstairs. 2 bedrooms have a double bed, 1 bedroom has two single beds and the small bedroom has a bunk bed ideal for children or adults. All beds have mosquito nets and every window of the house has mosquito netting. The top terrace has a Lamu bed and deck chairs, ideal for reading or simply admiring the incredible view of the ocean. Hot water is through a solar system, so on cloudy days the amount of hot water maybe limited.

House 2 (3 bed sleeps 6)

The house is also very close to the beach (60m from the water-line), surrounded by tropical trees and vegetation. The house was built in late 2009 (162m2) and has been tastefully furnished with local Swahili furniture from Diani and Lamu. A large, airy lounge opens onto the veranda which is ideal for lazy lunches and for relaxing during the heat of the day. The house does not have air-conditioning but being so close to the beach it benefits from a sea-breeze and all rooms have fans and mosquito nets. 

There are 3 bedrooms, and 2 bathrooms. The master bedrooms benefits from an en-suite shower and bathroom and a large double bed. The guest room has 2 large single beds. The 3rd room is situated in a beautiful attic overlooking the lounge, and has 2 single beds. All beds have mosquito nets and every window of the house has mosquito netting. The house comes with a fully equipped kitchen for 6 people. Hot water is through an electrical system that needs to be turned on to heat the boiler.
