Nomads Beach Hotel, Diani, Kenya
Nomads is not a ‘hotel’ in the real sense, but rather a collection of beach-front cottages surrounded by a magnificent tropical forest. It's home to Kenya's first beach bar and also features a kite/windsurf centre and a PADI scuba dive centre. Nomads has a very friendly, laid-back feel, is popular with surfers/divers and is a refreshing change from the tourist hotels found elsewhere on the Coast.
Accommodation - Nomads provides basic but comfortable (recently renovated) accomodation right on the beach with excellent onsite activities. You merely need to crawl out of bed and you are on the beach! You have a choice of Bandas or cottages. Accommodation is on a Bed & Breakfast basis with breakfast served in the newly renovated Nomads Beach Bar situated right on Diani Beach. Breakfast for hotel guests consists of cereals, fresh fruit, cold meats, freshly baked bread, fruit juice and a choice of Kenya tea or coffee.
Beach Bandas - "Banda" is the Swahili word for "hut". These are wooden structures with roofs made from palm-tree thatch ("makuti"). All bandas have a private verandah area looking out over the Indian Ocean. There are 9 bandas in total, all with twin beds, private shower and toilet, mosquito net and standing fan. Rates: from €24 per person per night B+B (based on 2 sharing. High-season supplements may apply).
Cottages - Like the bandas, the cottages have been recently refurbished and provide very comfortable accommodation. Being directly on the beachfront they have great views of the Indian Ocean and are cooled by the tradewinds. There are 6 cottages in all:- three cottages with two two double rooms and a shared bathroom and toilet, and 3 cottages with one double with private bathroom and toilet. Most cottages have a verandah or balcony with tables and chairs. All bedrooms have a mosquito net and ceiling fan. Rates: from €35 per person per night B+B (based on 2 sharing. Beach Bar + Restaurant - The beach bar has been completely refurbished and is now under new management. The restaurant features a sail-like canopy, mahogany and teak tables and alcoved seating. The food has a strongly Italian influence, serving everything from traditional oven-baked pizzas to freshly caught sea-food. The beach bar is situated directly on Diani Beach and is the perfect place to sit and drink sundowners looking out over the Indian Ocean.
Watersports - The H2O Extreme Watersports Centre is located at Nomads and offers kitesurfing and windsurfing lessons and rentals. H2O Extreme also have hobie cats, boogie boards and kayaks. Christmas / New Year '04-'05 - Please note that Nomads is booking up fast for Christmas / New Year. Please book early to avoid disappointment. Priority will be given to bookings spanning 24 Dec - 2 Jan. Bookings for shorter time periods cannot be guaranteed. Supplements are payable Christmas day and New Year's eve only (approx. €3 per per per night). Bookings confirmed on receipt of payment.
