Mukurumuji Tented Camp, Shimba Hills

LOCATION
Mukurumuji Tented Camp is situated in the Shimba Hills, which lie in the Hinterland of Diani Beach on the south coast of Kenya. The camp is on a forested hill in the privately owned 'Sable Valley Game Sanctuary' overlooking the Shimba Hills National Reserve. The red earth road ascends and, as the ocean is left behind, passes through beautiful countryside with colourful villages and farms worked by the Digo people.

FACILITIES
There are four comfortable double tents and a luxury 'honeymoon' cottage. Each is covered with palm thatch and has its own verandah and bathroom ensuite. From the camp herds of sable antelope, elephant and buffalo may be seen on the hills across the valley.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Visitors might enjoy a walk down to the river, or choose to sit quietly, simply observing and absorbing. As the African night falls, a campfire is lit and guests can watch the stars and listen to the clamor of extraordinary night sounds. Excursions from the camp include a day trip into the Shimba Hills National Reserve, where rain forests, river valleys and open plains are home to a variety of wild animals and birds. The fit and adventurous may take a walk to Sheldricks falls and swim in the cool pool below. An alternative excursion is to visit the community run Mwaluganje Elephant Sanctuary, approximately two hours drive from the camp.
Luggage should be kept to a minimum for comfort while travelling, we recommend a pair of binoculars for anyone visiting Mukurumuji and the Shimba Hills who wishes to take full advantage of the game and bird viewing opportunities, light walking shoes and a hat are suggested for anyone wishing to walk. We strongly advise guests to take out a comprehensive travel insurance policy when booking a holiday and it is importance to consult a doctor for advice on malarial prophylactics when travelling on the Kenya Coast.
