Governors' Camp, 78.9 overall
254-20-273-4000
There are "cheetahs galore" at this Mara River campsite, once reserved for Kenya's colonial governors. Paraffin lamps light up new, larger beige tents, each with handmade furniture, linen sheets, and private verandas from which to spy animals grazing nearby. "A combo of Western and African buffet-style meals is palatable," but staff will organize bush meals and gourmet dinners by candlelight upon request.

Standard tents and lanterns as the primary light source provide "the old safari feel that is exactly what guests appreciate." "When I checked in, there was an elephant grazing behind my tent." Each tent has a full bathroom with a bidet, as well as views of wildlife gathering around a watering hole. Dinner is served in a communal setting, allowing for "the good-natured rivalry of who saw what." "Staff do their best to find whatever animal you're looking for."
